Edinburgh - James MacMillan said yesterday he was embarrassed by his own country because of anti-Catholic prejudice. The internationally famous musician delivered a condemnation of the bigotry which, he claimed, ran throughout Scottish society.
Speaking at the Edinburgh Festival Mr MacMillan said: "In many walks of life - in the workplace, in the professions, in academia, in the media, in politics and in sport - anti-Catholicism, even when it is not particularly malign, is as endemic as it is second nature."
