Heavy snow and high winds brought chaos to many parts of Scotland today. Major road closures left many motorists stranded.
Virtually all areas of Scotland were affected. Problems on the roads were made more dangerous by severe drifting.
Thousands of homes were also without power as overhead lines were affected by high winds. Hundreds of schools were also expected to remain closed.
Strathclyde Police issued a severe weather warning. Drivers were advised to stay at home.
