The PSNI has arrested another suspect in the Megan McAlorum murder case, just hours before a prayer vigil in west Belfast for the teenager.
The arrest was made yesterday morning as an extension was granted for the questioning of a man arrested on Tuesday in connection with the case.
Ms McAlorum (16) was found murdered near an isolated quarry on Easter Monday. She had been to work in a local pub on Sunday and then went to another bar later that night.
Her body was discovered by children the following afternoon. It is understood that she had suffered head injuries in what the police described as a brutal attack.
Yesterday officers investigating the murder appeared before Lisburn magistrates and were granted an extension of the time available to interview the suspect taken into custody on Tuesday.
The murdered girl's parents have made an emotional appeal for anyone with information to bring it to the police.
Despite the suspicion with which many in west Belfast hold the PSNI, local community figures and elected representatives have said they are prepared to act as intermediaries.
A prayer vigil was organised in the Glencolin area of west Belfast last night, not far from where the teenage girl lived and the location where her body was discovered.
It was organised by the local community association and with support from local clergy.
A post-mortem examination has been concluded, but details of its conclusions have not been released.
