A security man at Judge Roy Bean's pub in Dublin has been found guilty by a jury of assaulting a customer who subsequently had to have emergency surgery for a brain clot.

Paul Burke (45) of St Finian's Grove, Lucan had pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm to Mr Kevin Daunt, from Longlands, Swords, Co Dublin, when he ejected him on June 18th, 2001. A jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court took 90 minutes following a four-day trial to find him guilty and Judge Frank O'Donnell remanded him in custody for sentence on December 18th.

Mr Daunt, a computer programmer, told the jury he spent 26 days in hospital after he was frog-marched from the premises with his left-hand pinned behind his back by Burke who had admitted him a few minutes earlier. He said a tooth was broken when he was rammed into the door and he was propelled out in such a way that his head struck a bollard.

Mr Daunt said he was tapped on the shoulder by Burke who said he had too much to drink.
