Two senior Iraqi officials have reportedly surrendered to US forces in Baghdad, it emerged this afternoon

Two senior Iraqi officials have reportedly surrendered to US forces in Baghdad, it emerged this afternoon. The two men are understood to be senior police generals in Baghdad.

The two men appeared at the gates of the Palestine Hotel in front of journalists before making their way to talk to US troops.

The men are said to have told reporters they were here to discuss the restoration of policing in the city.

Meanwhile, German ZDF public television is reporting that a senior aide to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has also surrendered.

General Amir al-Saadi is said to have been filmed talking to US troops.

The General was on a most-wanted list drawn up by the US military.
