The week that was at a glance.
Good Score
It was a lucrative week for David Beckham, who signed a €194 million, five-year deal with US soccer team LA Galaxy. Having survived on a paltry €6.5 million a year salary at Real Madrid, he will become the second-highest paid sportsman in the US - even though the 31-year-old has effectively gone into semi-retirement. The move is also aimed at boosting the Beckham "brand", allaying fears that the family might have to live off Victoria's singing career.
Bad Score
According to researchers at DCU, traces of cocaine were found on every bank note of 45 they tested. The 100 per cent detection rate compares with 65 per cent in the US. The notes were taken from a north Co Dublin bank branch, although you wonder if whoever carried the notes in his pocket is feeling a little worried now.
