Yesterday evening, a young woman died while taking part in a charity tractor run in Co Meath. The 22-year-old was driving a tractor when it crashed at Kilmainhamwood, Nobber, at about 5pm. No other vehicle was involved.

A female passenger in her 20s was injured and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

This was the second fatal crash in Meath at the weekend. Early on Saturday morning, a woman in her 40s died following a crash at Ballinagun, near Kells. She was the only occupant of the car and no other vehicle was involved.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact the Kells station at 046 9280820.

Meanwhile, a man in his 50s has been released without charge after he was questioned in connection with a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a pedestrian near Tullamore, Co Offaly.

James Dillon, a father of two, was found on the road at Killeigh with serious injuries early on Saturday. He was taken to Tullamore General Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Gardaí said they arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with the incident. He was held for questioning and released without charge yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí renewed their appeal for witnesses to the incident to contact them at Tullamore, on the Garda Confidential telephone line on 1800 666111, or at any Garda station.

A crash claimed the lives of a couple in Co Cork on Friday evening. Robert and Mary Condon died when their car was in collision with another vehicle at Stage Cross near Lissarda, Co Cork, at about 6.30pm.

Mrs Condon (81) of Broomfield, Midleton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Condon (79) died of his injuries before he could be taken to hospital for treatment.

Two women and two children travelling in the other car were taken to hospital but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Yesterday a man died following a two-vehicle crash on the Manoo Road in Kesh, Co Fermanagh. Six people, including two small children, were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them at Enniskillen on 0845 600 8000.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland also reported that a 41-year-old man, Robert Hanna, from Hillsborough, died following a crash on the Dromara Road, Hillsborough on Saturday.
