England striker Teddy Sheringham pounced four minutes from time to give Tottenham Hotspur a thrilling 3-2 win over brave Bolton Wanderers tonight.

Sheringham directed a powerful header past goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen from Christian Ziege's free kick to send Spurs into fifth place in the table.

It looked as though Bolton had done enough to earn a draw at White Hart Lane after Rod Wallace had cancelled out two goals in as many minutes from Spurs to leave the score 2-2.

Gustavo Poyet and Les Ferdinand struck in the 47th and 48th minutes for the home side after Michael Ricketts had given Bolton an eighth minute lead.

Bolton stay in 10th place.
