Vijay Singh, winless on the US PGA Tour since last year's Masters, moved closer to ending his drought when he took a two-stroke lead after the third round at the WorldCom Classic on South Carolina.
The Fijian birdied the final two holes to post a four-under-par 67 at Harbour Town. He was at 13-under with one round left, two shots ahead of Argentina's Jose Coceres (64) and American Billy Mayfair (69) and four clear of four others, including halfway leader Tom Lehman (72).
A week after compatriot Angel Cabrera briefly led the Masters, Coceres shot the round of the day, picking up eagle at the par-five second and then adding five birdies to jump into contention.
Coceres played the first two rounds of the event conservatively to try and make sure of making the cut, before becoming more aggressive yesterday.
Unlike the long-hitting Cabrera, Coceres relies more on accuracy than power, and his steady game is ideally suited to the tight Harbour Town course.
