In the worst accident, two people died in a head-on collision in Co Antrim yesterday. Their deaths bring to 74 the total killed on the North's roads so far this year.

The four separate fatalities on the Republic's road brings to 156 the number of road deaths so far this year.

In Co Meath, Mr Kieran McSorley (34), of Beaupark, was killed when his car struck a ditch on the Navan to Slane Road at Dunmoe. The single vehicle accident occurred at 4 a.m. yesterday. The man's body was removed to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan.

In Co Westmeath, a woman was killed when the car she was driving collided with a lorry at Macetown on the Delvin to Mullingar road.

Ms Laura Kenny (26), Brookfield, Mullingar, received fatal injuries in the crash, which took place at 11.35 a.m. on Saturday. Ms Kenny's body was taken to Mullingar General Hospital.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the collision. Gardaí are investigating.

In Co Kildare, an 18-year-old Lithuanian woman was fatally injured in a two-car collision at Clonuff, Broadford, at 2 a.m. on Saturday. The deceased was a passenger in one of the cars.

Three other people were removed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown.

According to gardaí, they had serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

Gardaí had not released the name of the deceased yesterday as relatives in her home country had yet to be notified.

A further fatality occurred in Castledermot, Co Kildare, on Friday morning when a car and a lorry collided at Prumblestown Lower at 11.15 a.m.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, died from his injuries a short time later in Naas General Hospital. The man's relatives asked gardaí that his name not be released.

In the North, two people died in a head-on road accident in Co Antrim. One of the people killed in the crash was later named as Ms Jacqueline Marie Morrow (32), of Belfast Road, Larne. The accident happened early yesterday on the main Belfast to Larne road, at Ballyedward.

It is understood Ms Morrow worked at Belfast International Airport at Aldergrove, about 10 miles from her Larne home.

The other car contained two young Belfast men.

One died in the vehicle and the other is being treated for serious injuries in hospital.
