Gardaí in Co Tipperary were yesterday continuing to question six people arrested over the murder of a 25-year-old father of one in a suspected drugs-related killing at a house party near Clonmel on Sunday night.
Detectives were questioning three men and a woman, arrested on the main Clonmel to Carrick on Suir Road at around 2am on Monday, about the killing of Eoin Cahill at the party at Kilganey, two and a half miles from Clonmel.
One man and the woman were being questioned in Clonmel Garda station while a further two were being held and questioned at Tipperary town. All four were arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act which allows for an initial detention of up to 48 hours.
Gardaí are also continuing to question a further two men arrested for breaking into Mr Cahill's house at Rosemount Green in Cahir which gardaí believe was related to Mr Cahill's murder. All six arrested are in their 20s or early 30s.
It has emerged that Mr Cahill's partner, Sharon Rossiter, was also attending the party where Mr Cahill was killed instantly when two masked men armed with shotguns burst into the house at Kilganey at 11.50pm on Sunday and shot him at close range.
Up to 15 people were at the party in the bungalow when the two raiders entered and shot Mr Cahill in the face before injuring another man, 36-year-old Mark Doolan, who was wounded in the arm when he struggled with one of the raiders.
Ms Rossiter, who is the sister of 14-year-old Brian Rossiter, who fell into a coma while in Garda custody in Clonmel in September 2002, was yesterday being comforted by family and friends. The couple have a two- year-old son, Brian.
