The Dublin branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was called out after a snake was discovered in a crate that had been delivered to the Guinness brewery from Texas yesterday.
The snake, which has been named JR because of its Texas origins, was taken to an expert who confirmed that it was a non-poisonous corn snake.
JR is expected to stay for a while at the Bairbre O’Malley veterinary hospital in Bray, Co Wicklow, as it is suffering from dehydration after its long-distance trip to Ireland.
A corn snake can grow to 90cm (3ft) to 150cm (5ft).
