RTÉ last night apologised for a promotional tweet for a radio programme which asked whether gay people can be “cured”.

A Twitter account for the radio programme The God Slot tweeted: “Can gays be cured of being gay? Try the God Slot Fri. 17/01.”

The tweet drew a number of critical responses from followers and was subsequently deleted. Initially, the administrator of the account urged people to “listen to the show before judging” but then appeared to back down.

“Apologies if offended by a promo for @TheGodSlot tomorrow night. The contributor refutes the value of any conversion therapy for gay people,” read a later tweet.
