Ireland, former minister of
State for international aid and development Peter Power, was paid a salary of €140,000 in 2012, a spokeswoman for the organisation said yesterday. The directors of the board of the Unicef company are not paid.
Unicef Ireland had an average of 16 staff during 2012, at a cost of €891,000, according to its accounts for that year. The accounts do not give Mr Power’s salary. The accounts for Unicef in the UK state that its chief executive was paid £107,363 in 2012, a year when it had an average of 203 employees.
Unicef Ireland had income of €5.3 million in 2012. The cost of generating funds was €1.5 million while management and administration was €431,016. The surplus of €3.3 million was transferred to Unicef in New York. The main sources of income were donations and major gifts.
The accounts say that Unicef Ireland was instrumental in securing a €16.9 million contribution from the Irish Government which was paid directly to the organisation’s headquarters in New York and, therefore, is not recorded in the accounts. The 2012 accounts for the UK organisation show it had total income of £62.3 million and had a cost of generating voluntary income of £18.4 million.
