Irish soldiers on peacekeeping operations in Bosnia have been taking part in the search for Dublin woman Winifred (Winnie) Brady (59), who went missing while on pilgrimage to Medjugorje last Wednesday.

Her brother-in-law, Philip Shevlin, who has retired from Army service, has flown out to Bosnia to join in the search.

Ms Brady's daughter, Carmel Moody, said last night there had been no developments in the search.

Her father, Stephen, and his brother, John, were flown out to Mudjugorje last Friday by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

"They're not coming home 'till they find her," said Ms Moody.

Mrs Brady was on her third visit to Medjugorje, which was due to end last Friday.

She was with a party of about 10 neighbours from the Kilbarrack area on the northside of Dublin city.

One of her fellow pilgrims called her at 4.45am last Wednesday.

It had been arranged that they would leave the accommodation where they were staying at 5am to begin the climb to a prayer meeting in the mountains locally.

Ms Brady, who has arthritis, complained that her knees were swollen.

She therefore decided to rest on, agreeing to meet her fellow pilgrims at lunchtime. 'When they returned to meet her at about 2pm, a receptionist told them Ms Brady had left the premises at about 1pm.

She has not been seen since. Her passport, cash, and medicines remained undisturbed in her room, and there have been no withdrawals from her bank account since.

"It is totally out of character for her," said her daughter Carmel, who recalled that Ms Brady called her husband every day up to her disappearance.

"She never liked to be away from home, which is why she just went for a week," she said.

Ms Brady last visited Medjugorje about 10 years ago.

That trip followed the death of her 19-year-old son, Christopher, who had a heart condition and, 10 months later, the death in a housefire of her eldest grandson, John (15), Carmel's son.
