Somali warlords, officials from an interim government and several heads of state are attending a conference aimed at ending over a decade of anarchy in Somalia.

The conference was opened by President Mr Daniel arap Moi of Kenya, which is chairing the conference organised by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development, a grouping of several east African states.

Also present were presidents Mr Omar el-Bashir of Sudan and Mr Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, and top officials of the Arab League and the African Union.
