UEFA has postponed this week's Champions League tie between Spartak Moscow and Swiss club FC Basel, as a mark of respect for the victims of the Moscow hostage drama.

A UEFA spokesman said that the match, originally scheduled for Wednesday, would now be played on November 6th.

A formal decision on the exact venue has not been finalised, but the match was still expected to take place in the Russian capital, he added.

Flags around Russia were lowered to half-mast today as the country began a day of mourning for the victims of the hostage drama in a Moscow theatre last week, in which 117 people died.
