It is hoped the bad weather has not dampened the summer spirit for what is shaping up to be a busy weekend across the country, writes Steven Carroll.
The Cork Midsummer Festival got under way earlier this week and will run until June 30th.
Tonight a multimedia spectacle called Wired and Free takes place at 10.30pm in the R&H Hall in Cork's docklands.
Those attending can expect to see performers suspended from a crane and the Cork skyline being used as a backdrop during this part-circus, part-theatre event.
The Lord Mayor's Picnic takes place at Fitzgerald Park tomorrow from 1pm to 5pm.
This free family event features boat rides, live music, markets and creative workshops for children.
About 100,000 people are expected to attend the annual Salthill International Air Show in Galway tomorrow. The event begins at 3pm.
AA Roadwatch says traffic restrictions will be in place in the city to deal with the extra traffic and they advise that Bus Éireann will be running regular shuttle bus services to the event from Eyre Square.
Another event this weekend is the Galway Sessions music festival with traditional and folk music performances across the city all weekend.
The eight-day festival sees 180 musicians performing 80 sessions. Today there is a free outdoor céilí with the Kinlochard Ceilidh Band at Spanish Parade at 4pm.
Still on a musical note, US pop singer Pink plays at Malahide Castle in Dublin this evening. A number of tickets for the concert, which kicks off at 5pm, were still available last night. Support acts include The Carriers, The Coronas and Gimik.
The Dublin Pride Festival culminates this weekend with the annual Pride Parade tomorrow afternoon. It begins in Parnell Square at 2.15pm and is expected to reach its destination, the Civic Offices on Wood Quay, at 3.30pm.
AA Roadwatch has advised that traffic disruptions are expected and that Parnell Square North will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
The South East Garden Show takes place at the Iverk Show Grounds in Pilltown, Co Kilkenny, today and tomorrow.
Finally, there is a busy sporting schedule this weekend featuring some important GAA fixtures tomorrow.
Croke Park will take centre stage with Dublin facing Offaly in the Leinster senior football championship semi-final at 4pm.
Leitrim meet Galway in the Connacht equivalent in Carrick-on-Shannon at 2pm and Limerick face Tipperary in the Munster senior hurling championship semi-final replay in Limerick's Gaelic Grounds at 3.30pm.
