Staff at a nursing home in Co Offaly are staging a sit-in at the home this evening in protest at unpaid wages.

Owners of the Tullybeg Retirement Village in Rahan, Co Offaly, told the HSE on Monday that they had ceased to have any involvement with it or responsibility for it.

The owners requested the HSE to make arrangements to place all residents in alternative accommodation

The Health Service Executive (HSE) moved patients from the private midlands nursing home yesterday and all 36 residents are now in alternative accommodation.

It is understood staff at the home have not been paid in three weeks.

It was revealed this week that a man arrested in Cork in January after €2.3 million was found in his garden was one of the directors of Tullybeg Retirement Village Ltd.

Ted Cunningham (57), from Farran, Co Cork, was arrested and released without charge after €2.3 million was found in a green compost bin at the rear of his home.
