An Post will mark the 25th anniversary of Dublin's National Concert Hall (NCH) today by issuing a commemorative postage stamp.

A total of 330,00 prints will be issued of the 48-cent stamp, which features a conductor presiding over an orchestra. The stamp was designed by artist Steve Simpson.

The original NCH building hosted the Dublin International Exhibition in the 1860s but was later redeveloped in a classical style by architect Rudolph Maximilian Butler.

Last year the NCH launched refurbishment plans comprising three venues:

a new 2,000-seater auditorium, a 900-seat venue and a smaller hall catering for 400.

President Mary McAleese will be the guest of honour at a gala concert in the NCH this weekend to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

An Post has also issued stamps in recent weeks to mark notable Irish people including GAA founder Michael Cusack, Olympic gold medalist Ronnie Delany and Land League founder Michael Davitt.
