Stamp to mark EU presidency

A new postage stamp marking Ireland’s presidency of the European Union has been launched.

A new postage stamp marking Ireland’s presidency of the European Union has been launched.

An Post chief executive Donal Connell presented the commemorative stamp - available from Thursday - to Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore during a meeting at Government Buildings.

The 55 cent stamp - designed by Dublin-based illustrator Steve Simpson - features the presidency logo, which was chosen by the public in an online poll last year.

Ireland took up its six-month presidency term on January 1st.

This is the seventh time the country has held the post in the 40 years of its EU membership.

The special stamp will be available to buy online, at Dublin’s GPO stamp shop and main post offices across the country.
