Stand-off at Cork house resolved

An incident involving a man who had barricaded himself into a room in a house in Mayfield, Cork, has been resolved.

An incident involving a man who had barricaded himself into a room in a house in Mayfield, Cork, has been resolved.

Gardaí were called to the scene at midnight and became embroiled in a stand-off with the man, who they initially believed was armed.

The Emergency Response Unit attended the incident but left this morning when it became clear the man was unarmed and not a danger to the public.

A small number of local gardaí remained at the scene attempting to persuade the man to leave the house. He eventually emerged unharmed at noon.
