Two suspected burglars, who were wearing balaclavas and armed with crowbars, were arrested at a Maynooth public house by detectives from Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth.

Two men arrested yesterday on suspicion of burglary were scheduled to appear at a special sitting of Kilcock District Court, Co. Kildare at 10.30am today.

The two, aged in their 20s and 30s, were held at about 4am by gardaí responding to an intruder alarm at a public house in Beaufield, near Maynooth.

The men, who were wearing balaclavas and armed with crowbars, were arrested at the scene by detectives from Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth.

They are being detained at Lexlip Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The investigation is ongoing.
