The Taoiseach Mr Ahern will today see the devastation the September 11th terror attacks had on the US during a tour of the World Trade Center site. Mr Ahern is to visit the wreckage before a meeting with New York Mayor Mr Rudolph Giuliani as part of a three-day visit to the US.
Yesterday he met President Mr George Bush and promised Ireland would continue to support the US in doing whatever was necessary to combat terrorism. But Mr Ahern outlined his concerns over the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
In a speech in Boston he also called for the United Nations to play a central role in military strikes against the Taliban.
