A teenage boy described in court as "out of control" escaped yesterday afternoon while on a familiarisation visit to a residential home, the High Court was told.

Mr Cormac Corrigan SC, for the 14-year-old, said his client had been remanded by the District Court to a State remand centre until November 17th.

High Court proceedings had been taken to obtain a suitable secure place for him. He was taken to the residential home but escaped at about 1.30 p.m. yesterday and was still at large last night.

The President of the High Court, Mr Justice Morris, made an order directing i the Garda to search for, arrest and detain the boy and return him to the centre.
