Two fugitives involved in a siege in Colorada Springs have given themselves up to police.

They are the two last members of the "Texas Seven" gang of prison escapees. The two had been negotiating with police since around 5.00 a.m. (Irish time).

The two suspects, Donald Newbury, a convicted armed robber, and Patrick Murphy, a convicted burglar and rapist, were part of a group of seven inmates who escaped from a maximum security prison outside of San Antonio, Texas, on December 13.

Heavily armed, the group killed a police officer outside a sporting goods store in Irving, Texas, they were holding up, and eluded capture for weeks.

On Tuesday, police were tipped to a trailer park in Woodland Park, Colorado, where they arrested four suspects, while a fifth one barricaded himself inside a mobile home and shot himself to death.
