Rabat - Hundreds of thousands of women poured onto the streets of Morocco's two main cities yesterday for rival demonstrations over government plans to improve women's rights.

In Casablanca, the opposition PJD and the banned Al Adel Oua Al Isshane organised a rally against plans to give women easier access to divorce, raise the minimum marriage age from 14 to 18 and impose a ban on polygamy. In Rabat, feminist groups and government politicians gathered in support of equal rights.
