Gardaí have arrested three men in connection with the Omagh bombing.

Gardaí have arrested three men in connection with the Omagh bombing.

The men are being detained in Carrickmacross Garda station, Co Monaghan, for questioning under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

It is understood that two of the men were arrested in Co Monaghan yesterday while the third was arrested in Co Louth earlier today.

A Garda spokesman told ireland.comthe men were arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into the 1998 Real IRA bombing and did not know how long the men would be detained for.

The first and only conviction in relation to the bombing, in which 29 people were killed, was secured last month.

Building contractor Colm Murphy (49) from Ravensdale, Dundalk, Co Louth, was convicted in January by the Special Criminal Court of conspiracy to cause the Omagh bombing and is now serving a 14-year prison sentence.
