Three British solders died in Iraq this morning in a suspected roadside bomb attack, the Ministry of Defence said.
Two other soldiers suffered minor injuries in the incident in Amara, in southeastern Iraq. A British military spokesman at headquarters in Basra confirmed the three deaths but gave no further details.
Britain has about 8,500 troops in Iraq patrolling the mainly Shi'ite south of the country near Basra, which is generally quieter than areas further north patrolled by 140,000 US forces.
The ministry of defence in London said the deaths brought to 92 the number of British soldiers who have died in Iraq, including 53 killed in action.
The soldiers were from Task Force Maysan in Amara, a unit based around the 1st Staffordshire Regiment but including troops from other regiments.
