Three men appeared in court in London today charged in connection with the alleged plot to blow up transatlantic airliners.
Nabeel Hussain, Mohammed Yasar Gulzar and Mohammed Shamin Uddin are accused of conspiracy to murder and of preparing an act of terrorism.
The three appeared before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London this morning.
They are alleged to have "conspired with other persons to murder other persons" between January 1st and August 10th this year. They were also charged with a new offence of preparing an act of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2006.
It was alleged they "engaged in conduct to give effect to their intention to smuggle the component parts of improvised explosive devices on to aircraft and assemble and detonate them on board".
Mr Hussain (22), of Chingford, east London, Mr Gulzar (25), of Barking, east London, and Mr Uddin (35), of Stoke Newington, north London, spoke only to confirm basic details about their identities during the hearing.
A bail application on behalf of Mr Hussain was refused. No bail application was made on behalf of either Mr Uddin or Mr Gulzar.
The three were remanded in custody until September 18th, when they will appear at the Old Bailey.
The men were among 24 people arrested earlier this month by police investigating the alleged bomb plot.
Detectives have until this evening to decide whether to charge or release five people still in custody, or to seek a further extension to question them.
A total of 14 people have been charged in relation to the alleged plot to smuggle improvised explosive devices on to passenger jets and assemble, then detonate them on board.
