The Moriarty tribunal went into private session yesterday on the grounds that people could be mentioned in the next phase who may have no bearing on the proceedings.

Ms Jacqueline O'Brien, counsel for the tribunal, made the application before Mr Justice Moriarty. "Persons may be mentioned who may have no bearing on the tribunal", she said.

Public sittings of the tribunal are expected to resume in the New Year.
