Aid agency Trócaire is taking to the web to promote global human rights.

The charity is to unveil its annual Lenten appeal today and plans to include a new website aimed at teenagers as part of the campaign.

The Just World website, billed as the first of its kind in Ireland, is being described as a Bebo-style social networking site that will tap into the issues of social justice and human rights.

Trócaire director Justin Kilcullen said: "The use of technology and new media can help us start a global conversation about ending poverty and changing the circumstances that make and keep people poor.

"Millions of people use social networking sites. Just World is a values-based site where members can meet others who share their opinions," he said.
