Trócaire has said it still hopes to hold a special Mass and presentation for former bishop of Galway Éamon Casey when he recovers from an accident.
Bishop Casey fell and broke his hip in Gort at the weekend. He celebrated his 80th birthday in hospital on Monday.
He founded Trócaire, the Catholic Church's development agency, in 1973 and was chairman for almost 20 years.
The agency had organised a tribute to Bishop Casey on May 8th next to acknowledge his work for Trócaire.
It was to involve a Mass celebrated by the Bishop of Clonfert and current Trócaire chairman Dr John Kirby, followed by a presentation.
A Trócaire spokeswoman said it regretted that the celebration had to be postponed in light of Bishop Casey's injury, but it would be held at a later date.
