A painter and decorator and his son were yesterday granted bail totalling more than €200,000 on drugs charges, but were remanded in custody until acceptable sureties are produced before a judge.
Kieran Smyth (47) and his son, also Kieran Smyth (24), both from Northern Ireland, were told they must remain in Co Donegal if they raise bail.
Judge Conal Gibbons ruled at a special sitting of Donegal District Court that the pair must also surrender their passports and other travel documents, and they must sign on daily at a Garda station.
Both men were granted bail on their own surety of €1,000 and an independent surety of €100,000.
Each must have a separate independent surety, and €50,000 must be lodged in court for each man before they are released from custody.
The men appeared in court on remand from Carrick-on-Shannon District Court on Wednesday.
They are charged having cannabis and unlawful possession of it for sale or supply at Béal an Atha, Falcarragh, Co Donegal.
They were remanded to appear again at Letterkenny District Court on September 20th. Both were granted legal aid.
They were arrested in Falcarragh on Monday by gardaí who seized cannabis with a street value of €500,000.
