Two held after device found in Clare

Two men have been arrested after an explosive device was found in Co Clare early this morning.

Two men have been arrested after an explosive device was found in Co Clare early this morning.

The discovery of the improvised device was made when a vehicle was stopped at about 1am at Cappa Beg, Barefield, Ennis.

Gardaí called the Army bomb disposal team, which arrived on the scene at 3.45am. It made safe the device without a controlled explosion, and the scene was declared safe at 5.30am

The two men are being held at Ennis Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

The Army has made 43 viable explosive devices safe so far this year.
