A man has been shot in the head in a gangland-style attack in south Co Dublin.

A man has been shot in the head in a gangland-style attack in south Co Dublin.

The victim, thought to be in his early 20s, is understood to have been shot before being pushed out of a car outside a row of shops on Lakelands Road in Stillorgan shortly before 3.45pm.

He is currently in a serious condition in St Vincent's Hospital.

A car, believed to have been used in the shooting, was found burnt out in Dargle Woods in Dundrum. It is understood a gun and a quantity of cannabis were recovered from the car.

Gardaí arrested two men, aged 21 and 22,  in Firhouse in connection with the shooting. Both are being detained at Tallaght Garda staion under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act. They can be held for up to 72 hours.

The shooting has been linked to an ongoing feud between two families in the Crumlin area.

A local shopkeeper who witnessed the aftermath of the shooting, said: "When I came to the door, the guys sitting in the car saw me coming out and they took off very fast. "There was one chap in the car that had been shot at this stage and was all covered in blood and they were trying to push him out of the car," he told RTÉ News.  "He was holding on. When they saw me they took off and they went down there. The door of the car was open. They were still trying to shove him out and he was trying to stay in the car. "They finally got him out of the car. They pushed him out onto the road and just drove off left him lying there."
