Two people were arrested today in connection with the £26.5 million Northern Bank robbery in Belfast last December.

The PSNI said a man (24) and woman (22) had been detained for questioning over the robbery, which was blamed by Chief Constable Hugh Orde on the IRA.

Earlier this month, three people were charged in connection with the robbery but not with carrying out the raid. Several other people who were arrested were freed without charge.

The cash was stolen from the headquarters of the bank at Donegall Square in an audacious raid five days before Christmas.
