Two people were arrested in Cork City this afternoon after gardai seized 20 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of almost €1.5 million.
The two - a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s - are being detained at Togher garda station under the Drug Trafficking Act. Both are foreign nationals.
Gardai from the National Drugs unit assisted by gardai from the Cork Divisional Drugs Unit seized the drugs during a search of a vehicle in the South Mall area of the city.
A number of police forces were involved in the operation, including the PSNI, the Scottish Drugs Enforcement Agency and Dutch police.
