Two men died in separate road accidents in Co Cork on Sunday

Two men died in separate road accidents in Co Cork on Sunday. Mr Michael Murphy (54), from Lombardstown, north Cork, died after his four-wheel drive vehicle crashed into a ditch and overturned at 11 p.m.

He was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash at Ballygiblin, Cecilstown.

Mr Murphy is survived by his wife, Joan, and two grown-up daughters.

The accident occurred a short distance from the family home. Emergency services were unable to revive the man, and he died on route to Cork University Hospital.

Meanwhile a man lost his life in a two-car collision at Rathduff on the Cork-Mallow road shortly after 11 p.m. Mr Liam Cahill (25), from Carrignavar near Ballincollig, died as medics tried to stabilise his condition at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Cork University Hospital. He has been named as Cork hurler Mr Pat Mulcahy, who is a member of the All-Ireland winning Newtownshandrum hurling squad.

He was treated for a broken wrist, and is said to be in a comfortable condition.
