Two men have been treated for gunshot wounds after they were fired at in Sligo town early yesterday morning.
The men were travelling in a van with another man in the Cranmore area just after midnight when they were attacked.
A gunman standing a short distance from the men's van opened fire.
Two of the occupants were wounded, one seriously.
The two men were driven immediately to Sligo General Hospital.
Both, believed to be in their 20s, were still in hospital last night.
One of the men underwent surgery yesterday morning during which he had a bullet removed from his upper body.
He was in intensive care last night where his condition was described as "serious but stable".
The other man was also in a stable condition.
Gardaí were called to the accident and emergency unit and conducted preliminary interviews.
It is believed the shooting may be linked to a family feud in the Sligo area rather than any gangland activity.
Sligo has been the scene in recent years of fighting between two Traveller families. On occasions there has been violence at funerals.
