Two men were being questioned by gardaí last night in relation to the discovery of cannabis resin with an estimated street value of about €250,000.

The men, aged 23 and 35 years, were detained during Garda searches in the Wexford area on Wednesday night and early yesterday morning. The cannabis resin was discovered when residences in New Ross were searched by gardaí.

The men were arrested and taken to the local Garda station. They were still being held last night under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act. The drugs were undergoing forensic analysis.

The latest seizure was a joint operation between the Garda National Drugs Unit and gardaí in New Ross. It was one of a number of large seizures of drugs around the State in the last fortnight. Almost €20 million of cannabis resin has been seized in those operations.
