British house prices rose by 1.6 per cent in August, giving a three-month annual rate of increase of 2.5 per cent, HBOS Plc said in its Halifax house price survey today.
That followed a 0.4 per cent monthly increase in July. The nation's largest mortgage lender said the average price of a British home was a seasonally-adjusted 165,967 pounds in August. Halifax said the month-on-month rise was the biggest since September 2004.
