A brother, his sister and a friend of an Irish immigrant family in New York were killed in a car crash over the Thanksgiving holiday. Another sister was critically injured, police and hospital officials said.

Mr John Kelly (20), a US Marine at a North Carolina barracks was home from duty on Thursday last week visiting his family in Long Island when he and his sister, Ms Aileen Kelly (16), were in a fatal car collision. Also killed in the crash was Ms Nancy Rothfeld (15), a friend of the family. Ms Caitriona Kelly (20) remains in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Huntington Hospital. The Kelly family emigrated to the United States from Co Offaly 10 years ago, according to local newspaper reports. Funeral services were held in Long Island on Tuesday.
