US envoy has talks with Cypriot leaders

Nicosia - The US envoy to Cyprus, Mr Richard Holbrooke, met President Glafkos Clerides of Cyprus, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Rauf Denktash, for four hours yesterday but said he expected no substantive results from the talks, Michael Jansen reports. However, Mr Holbrooke said the meeting, at the Ledra Palace Hotel in the UN-controlled buffer zone, was a positive development because dialogue between the two leaders had been ruled out earlier.
