French midfielder Patrick Vieira has ended speculation of a move to Real Madrid by promising to stay at Arsenal for the foreseeable future, a British newspaper reported today.
The English premier league club's captain was linked to the Spanish giants after French team mate Zinedine Zidane suggested he would further his career by a transfer there.
But Vieira told the Daily Mirror: "All the ambitions I have, I know that I can achieve them at Arsenal.
"When you see them keeping the manager, wanting to build a 60,000-seat ground, wanting to be one of the biggest clubs in Europe, wanting to win things - that's the ambition I have.
"I don't see any reason to leave. I believe in the club. I believe in the chairman and the board. I believe they will put everything right to make Arsenal one of Europe's biggest clubs.
"Arsenal have given me a lot since I joined and I hope I have given them the same. I've achieved so much now I have a responsibility to them."
His comments follow manager Arsene Wenger's decision this week to sign a four-year extension to his current deal with Arsenal ending in 2005.
Arsenal's application for a new stadium near their current ground will be heard by planners on Monday night.
