The Eiffel Tower remains closed today because of a strike by staff, disappointing scores of tourists seeking to see Paris from on top its most famous monument.

The strike began on Tuesday afternoon, when staff walked out in support of a colleague who was given a disciplinary warning, said a spokeswoman for the company that manages the tower .

At this time of year, Gustave Eiffel 's monument usually gets 15,000 visitors a day, She  said.   The tower employs about 250 people and, administrative staff aside, most were on strike, she added.

Some visitors said they were starting to feel like no trip to Paris was complete without a strike.

"The last time we came here the Louvre was on strike, and we couldn't see that either," said one tourist.
