Premiership newcomers West Bromwich Albion are to elect their captain on a game-by-game basis this season.

Neil Clement was chosen to lead the side in Saturday's season opener at Blackburn after a vote among the 11 members of team.

The club now plan to continue with the system for the rest of the season.

Midfielder Andy Johnson said: "The captain's armband is going to be decided by the 11 players that are starting the game.

"On Saturday morning we all had a bit of a meeting, the 11 lads, and decided who was going to be given the skipper's armband.

"We chose `Clem' on Saturday. Next week it might be different, we'll judge each game and each week as it comes."
