Formula One:Mark Webber is relieved he has the opportunity to quickly get back in the saddle at Silverstone this weekend so soon after his smash in Valencia.
THe Australian emerged unscathed from his 190mph accident in the European Grand Prix eight days ago, when his Red Bull was catapulted into the air after running into the back of Heikki Kovalainen’s Lotus.
Whilst Webber is physically fine, mentally it is a case of wanting to put what happened behind him as swiftly as possible, starting with practice on Friday ahead of the British Grand Prix.
“After a set back such as the crash, my advice is to get back on the saddle, or in the car, as soon as possible,” said Webber. “I’m looking forward to Silverstone and glad it’s so soon after Valencia.
“What happened is water under the bridge, but you have to focus on the next time you need to perform, and for me that’s driving the car in Silverstone.”
Webber also appreciates his circumstances, mindful that despite the spectacular nature of his shunt there are always people worse off.
It was a positive attitude he adopted following a cycling accident 19 months ago that left him with a broken leg and collarbone and in a race against time to be fit for the 2009 season.
“I train regularly and fitness is obviously a large factor in helping your body recover quickly,” added Webber.
“That might be from a crash or even just helping you cope better with everyday stresses and strains.
“What I learned when I broke my leg is that you think you’re in a tough situation, but it’s nothing compared to what other people have to deal with.
“Life’s full of ups and downs, but on the tough days be mindful that someone somewhere is having a much tougher day than you.
“It’s a case of keeping yourself in check and looking for the next opportunity to bounce back.”
