Wicklow's resurgence under new manager Mick O'Dwyer continued in
appalling conditions at Aughrim
this afternoon with a hard-fought 0-7 to 0-5 win over
Wexford.
A storm force wind had a major impact on proceedings and the home side made the most of it in the first-half, scoring five unanswered points to lead 0-5 to 0-0 at the break.
Paul Earls ran proceedings in the opening period, notching four of Wicklow's five scores but was powerless to prevent a Wexford comeback in the second-half as, with the wind at their backs, the visitors fought back to level matters on 0-5 apiece.
However, O'Dwyer's sides are nothing if not dogged and, despite playing into a gale, a further point from Earls edged Wicklow in front before substitute Tony Hannon rounded off the scoring 15 minutes from the end.
