Williams ruthless in disposing of Capriati

Serena Williams demolished fellow American Jennifer Capriati 6-1 6-1 in 45 minutes today to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Serena Williams demolished fellow American Jennifer Capriati 6-1 6-1 in 45 minutes today to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.

The twice Wimbledon champion was in blinding form and avenged her quarter-final defeat by Capriati at the French Open earlier this month.

Although both Americans had entered the contest without dropping a set in this year's campaign, seventh seed Capriati simply failed to make an impact against the top seed.

After Capriati had won the opening game, Williams reeled off eight games in a row before clinching victory when her opponent put a back hand into the net.

Williams will meet fourth-seed Amelie Mauresmo of France after she beat Argentina's Paola Suarez.

The 24-year-old Frenchwoman secured her second appearance in the last four at Wimbledon with a 6-0 5-7 6-1 win against the Argentinian on court one.

Ninth seed Suarez played a combined six sets for her singles and doubles matches yesterday and struggled to get out of the starting blocks today.

Mauresmo went on the attack immediately, charging to the net at every opportunity in the opening game.
